Chain Pizza History on History Channel Next Week
I’m very excited to be returning to History Channel again next week for another featured appearance. Last time I was on The Food that Built America talking about Pizza Hut’s origins and this time I’ll be on The Mega-Brands that Built America giving context for the Pizza Wars of the 1990s.
My episode “Pizza Power Play” will air on Sunday, April 19th at 10pm ET/ 9pm CT. It’s all about how the big chains battled it out for pizza supremacy in the 80s and 90s. I gave some historical context, particularly from the perspective of Pizza Hut and Dominos.Â
Our pizza tours are all about the independent pizzerias, but most of America (and the world) only learned about pizza because of the big chains. It’s a really interesting history and this show uses an interesting approach of presenting the information through reenactments rather than just making you look at talking heads.
