Learn what makes New Haven so special from the guy who literally wrote the book on the topic, Taste of New Haven founder Colin Caplan. With Colin's guidance, we'll gain insider access at these historic pizzerias. See their kitchens, taste their pizza, experience the culture.
This specialty tour is a collaboration between Scott's Pizza Tours and Taste of New Haven. It will be led by the founders of both companies, Scott Wiener and Colin Caplan. If you're unfamiliar with Colin, he literally wrote the book on New Haven pizza history. It's an epic and thorough retelling of the Elm City's pizza lineage through archival documents and images. Guess who wrote the forward... SCOTT!
With these two joining forces, this tour is guaranteed to reach extreme levels of pizza nerdiness!
Duration: 9am to 7pm (10 hours)
Location: Meets in Union Square NYC then heads to New Haven
Group Size: 20 people
Inclusions: All pizza and non-alcoholic drinks
Exact stops will not be announced in advance but you will definitely visit Frank Pepe's, Sally's Apizza, and Modern Apizza. That's the holy trinity of New Haven spots!
Tour Details
This tour will meet near Union Square, where our bus will meet the group and drive us to New Haven and back. We’ll conduct the tour aboard the bus. If you’re interested in joining the tour, but prefer to meet us in New Haven that’s totally OK!
We’ll us a fancy limousine buses for this tour, not a yellow school bus.
You may also choose to rent your own party bus and our guide will hop on. We call this a BYO Bus tour! Just indicate this as your choice when you fill out a Tour Request Form and we’ll send you details and reduced pricing.
Scott Wiener (founder of Scott’s Pizza Tours) will accompany the group up to New Haven and throughout the entire tour. Colin Caplan (founder of Taste of New Haven) will meet us in New Haven and co-guide the tour with Scott.
Colin’s the guy behind Connecticut’s recent declaration as the “Pizza Capital of the US”and author of the incredible book Pizza in New Haven. You’ll be able to purchase the book on the tour.

We recommend bringing a refillable container for water. Please bring cash if you’re interested in purchasing beverages or souvenirs.
This tour cannot accommodate dietary restrictions. If you are gluten free, vegan, or vegetarian this may not be the tour for you. We’ll be eating pizzas with both meat and seafood.

No! We organize our tours to avoid long lines and cold slices.
We sit down in each pizzeria, so you’ll be in there for 30-40 minutes. Beyond simply feeding you delicious pizza, your guide will also take you on a kitchen tour at most stops.
We try to minimize time spent on the bus, so pizzerias are roughly 10-15 minutes apart.
YES! It takes about 2 hours to drive to New Haven from Union Square, NYC and 2 hours to drive back. Add a 5-stop pizza tour in between and you got yourself a full-day pizza adventure on your hands!
