Last year marked the inaugural 5k For Pizza in Hoboken NJ, in which pizza-loving participants raced around the picturesque city on the western bank of the Hudson River before celebrating with slices. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event has gone virtual. Unlike most running events, this one won’t be restricted to a particular time and place. Instead, participants will have between June 15 and July 31 to complete their routes. 5k For Pizza encourages runners to track their performances though apps like Strava, a partner of 5k For Pizza. A portion of the proceeds from the run will benefit local hunger relief efforts through Slice Out Hunger, a nonprofit that specializes in pizza-related events and campaigns.
