I’ve been writing a monthly column called “Man on the Street” for Pizza Today Magazine since 2011. Here’s my latest piece about the decline of the dollar slice. Dollar slices have become an entire genre of pizza in NYC and sometimes they’re even mistaken for their parent category of Classic NY Slices. Dollar slices are inherently low quality so tourists should NOT think of them as representative of New York’s pizza quality. We spend time on our NYC Pizza Tours talking about the importance of quality ingredients and how those ingredients have changed over time. This column tackles the reasons for the decline of the dollar slice, beyond the fact that they’re just bad. I spoke about some of these issues years ago in a Vice video, but now we’re seeing them play out in real time.
