New York City’s Best Pizza – News & Updates on the Pizzerias of Manhattan (NYC, NY) | Scott's Pizza Tours

Scott on the Coop and Tobin Morning Show

December 17, 2008

WPDH in Poughkeepsie has been giving away pizza tour tickets all week so they invited me on air to talk about pizza. I even brought some pies from Lombardi’s, Patsy’s (Harlem), John’s of Bleecker, and Ray’s (Prince St). They had so many callers that the segment lasted over 30 minutes! Dang, we could have had a Domino’s pizza delivered in that time. Click play to hear us chat about reheating slices, dipping crusts, traffic and weather.

SPT in Pizza Today Magazine

November 7, 2008

The pages of Pizza Today Magazine are geared toward pizzeria owners across the country. Articles often refer to the different styles of pizza as if they were options on a menu rather than vast geographic variations. Sometimes I get a chuckle when reading about a “New York style” pizzeria in Oklahoma whose owners and pizzaioli have never even visited New York. The current issue of Pizza Today offers a guide of sorts for these folks. They’ve published a fantastic article summarizing eleven of the city’s top pizzerias, including classics such as Lombardi’s, Difara, Grimaldi’s, and Patsy’s as well as newcomers like Luzzo’s, Lucali and Franny’s. I even had a chance to accompany Pizza Today’s Jeremy White (editor-in-chief) and Josh Keown (art director) to several of the pizzerias.

You can read the article in Pizza Today’s online magazine ! Just click the “Archives” link for the October 2008 issue.

A New Logo for the Pizza Industry

October 27, 2008

This November, our nation will come together in a way we never have before. That’s right, pizzerias across the country finally have a unifying logo and slogan! The milk industry has “Got Milk?” and now the pizza industry has “The Great Meal.” It makes me swell with pride every time I look at this crest. Feel free to post it on your wall, tattoo it on your chest, tile it on your floor, etc.

Pizza Eating Contest

October 15, 2008

Finally, an IFOCE recognized pizza eating contest hit the streets of New York on Sunday, October 12. All my favorite competitive eaters were there, but Joey Chestnut (Nathan’s hot dog champ, Krystal burger champ, etc) beat them all with an incredible performance, eating 45 slices of pizza in 10 minutes. This guy is incredible. I wish I could have been there to watch the action, but I was sharing slices with a school bus filled with hungry pizza adventurers.

Scott’s Pizza Tours in PMQ

September 22, 2008

Ever since the day my brother Jon signed me up for a subscription to Pizza Today Magazine, I’ve been an avid reader. Then came the news that another trade magazine exists for the pizza industry: PMQ’s (Pizza Marketing Quarterly) Pizza Magazine. Both periodicals provide great articles about oven technology, dough preparation, cheese options, etc. Needless to say, I celebrate the day either magazine arrives in my mailbox. The current issue of Pizza Magazine is especially intriguing because it includes a blurb about Scott’s Pizza Tours, inspired by a surprise visit to the NY Pizza Walk by PMQ publisher Steve Green. This guy is a real pizza fan and he was a delightful addition to our pizza expedition. PMQ even hosts its own video website called PizzaTV, where you can find video components of Pizza Magazine’s articles. Steve posted a great video about the NY Pizza Walk, which you can find at PizzaTV.com.

PMQ (Pizza Marketing Quarterly) is just one of the pizza industry’s trade magazines. Last month, they tagged along one a NY Pizza Walk and shot this neat video to post on their YouTube for Pizza, PizzaTube! Steve Green, the magazine’s publisher, is a real pizza fan and actually gets to travel around the US eating pizza.
