Do I have to purchase tickets in advance?
Yes. Tours have a limited capacity and often sell out. If you are planning to make reservations for several people, it’s a good idea to purchase tickets well in advance before spots fill up. Tickets may be purchased with a Visa, Mastercard or American Express.
What is the difference between the Pizza Bus and the Pizza Walk?
The Pizza Bus takes passengers to the city’s remote pizza outposts, including the outer boroughs, while the Pizza Walk focuses on historic pizzerias in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village. Both tours include four slices of pizza, goody bags, and explanations of pizza culture and tradition.
Am I required to purchase a ticket for my child?
We have different policies for the Pizza Bus and Pizza Walk.
PIZZA BUS – Tickets must be purchased for anyone requiring a seat on the bus. Children between the ages of 4 and 12 are invited to purchase a CHILD ticket (reduced price). Children under the age of 4 are invited to join us free of charge, but must share pizza and seats with their guardian. There is a limit of one non-paying child per adult.
PIZZA WALK – Children under the age of 6 are welcome to join us free of charge as long as you are willing to share your slices with them. Limit is one child under 6 per adult. All others must purchase a general ticket.
How far do we walk on the Pizza Walk?
“We’ll cover about 1 – 1.5 miles. Just think of it as a way to burn off the carbs! Please remember to wear comfortable shoes.
Does weather affect the tour?
All tours run rain or shine. Tour itineraries may change if weather becomes a problem but we will always run complete tours. Please dress appropriately for the weather.
Where do the tours start?
All tours start in Little Italy. The exact starting location will be provided upon purchase of your ticket.
Where do the tours end?
All Pizza Bus tours end at the corner of Houston and Mott, just two blocks from the starting point. All Pizza Walks end at Sheridan Square, about a mile from the starting point. Nearby subways include the 1, A, B, C, D, E, F and V.
Where will we go on this tour?
Each trip on the Pizza Bus is unique. We draw our destinations from a bank of participating pizzerias throughout New York’s five boroughs. Few tours will have the same itinerary but all will visit four of the city’s best pizzerias.
The Pizza Walk covers New York pizza from a historical perspective. We’ll stay in Greenwich Village for the duration of the tour.
How much time do we spend at each pizzeria?
Each pizzeria visit lasts about 25 minutes.
Can I bring alcohol on the Pizza Bus?
No. It is against New York State law to consume alcohol on a bus. Some pizzerias we visit do have alcoholic beverages for sale, so please be sure to bring sufficient cash and a valid ID.
Who will be my tour guide?
Scott Wiener is a licensed New York City tour guide and dedicated pizza enthusiast. Scott’s love for pizza and fascination with pizza culture has led him to create a forum in which pizza lovers can assemble to dish about their favorite slices and broaden their pizza palates.
What kind of bus do we take on Pizza Bus trips?
Scott’s Pizza Tours are the only guided tours in New York City that use a big yellow school bus. All buses are new models and pass weekly inspections by the NYC Board of Education. We only use buses that are up to code with the city’s regulations. Studies show that school buses are among the safest means of transportation on the road.
Are the tours wheelchair accessible?
Neither tour is fully wheelchair accessible but we may be able to tailor the Pizza Walk to your needs if you contact us at least two weeks in advance.
Am I permitted to leave possessions on the Pizza Bus?
You may leave personal items on the bus, as the bus driver will always stay with the vehicle during our tastings, but it is strongly recommended that you keep valuables with you at all times. Several seats will be open for luggage and strollers.
Are these tours appropriate for New Yorkers?
YES! No matter how long you’ve lived in New York there are certainly pizzerias you have never visited. In fact, New Yorkers tend to be least aware of the pizza possibilities in their own backyards!
Is this tour appropriate for tourists?
YES! Your guide is licensed by the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs to take you on a unique NYC tour by way of its pizza. Most tourists want to see the city and eat its pizza; Scott’s Pizza Tours let you do both!
How much pizza will I eat?
Participants are provided with four slices of pizza, one at each pizzeria we visit. How much of that pizza you eat is entirely up to you. If you fall in love with a particular slice, feel free to order a pie or two to-go. Just remember to bring cash, as the classic pizzerias don’t take credit.
How do we decide on toppings?
We don’t! The group will only taste cheese slices. This maintains a uniform standard upon which to evaluate the slices we consume. If you would like any extra slices with toppings, you may order them at your own cost.
Are restrooms available during the tour?
Yes. Most pizzerias offer the use of restrooms to customers.
How large will the group be?
Capacity for the Pizza Bus is 32 adults. Pizza Walks can accommodate 16. We work by pizza math: pies are cut into eight slices and both 32 and 16 are divisible by eight!
Are cameras allowed on the tour?
Yes to the thousandth degree! Pizza pictures are usually worth framing because everyone is always smiling in them. We even have a special web site where you can share your photos with other pizza pals.
Do I need to bring anything on the tour?
It is highly recommended that you bring a refillable container for water. We discourage the use of bottled water, as New York’s tap water is among the cleanest and tastiest in the country. You’ll also want to bring a camera and your love of adventure.
Should I eat before taking this tour?
The aim of this tour is not to fill you up beyond the level of comfort but it is recommended you eat a reasonable breakfast in the morning to get your metabolism rolling.
Are tours conducted in English only?
Yes. It is the belief of Scott’s Pizza Tours that pizza defies all language barriers.
Can I purchase a gift certificate for this tour?
Yes. A Scott’s Pizza Tour gift certificate makes the perfect gift for any occasion. Just contact us directly to request a gift certificate!
Can I book a private/custom tour?
Yes, we are more than happy to accommodate your requests for private tours. Simply contact us and we’ll be happy to construct an event to suit your party’s needs.
How do you choose the pizzerias?
Scott’s Pizza Tours draw its stops from a bank of several pizzerias. Every stop is chosen after careful research and taste-testing. We must also take into account each stop’s location in relation to our tour routing. New York is a big place and there is a lot of great pizza out there so please feel free to make suggestions via our contact form.
Why isn’t Di Fara on the list?
Di Fara is an incredible pizzeria but its magic lies in the fact that it isn’t the kind of place a tour bus full of hungry passengers can easily navigate. Timing is a big part of our tours and a Di Fara stop, however delicious, wouldn’t be prudent. However, I will reward anyone who brings a Di Fara pie to any pizza tour.
